Information about our curriculum for Years 3 to 6 at Carmichael

Junior Years 2018-09-20T19:53:04+00:00

As the Carmichael student enters the junior years of schooling they continue to build on existing relationships in and out of the classroom.

Academically they will be challenged to expand their skills and knowledge in a classroom environment that supports their individual abilities. These years build on the strong foundations of the Early Years as students expand their horizons to explore a range of key learning areas. The Carmichael student’s learning becomes deeper as they move from concrete to abstract thinking. Students are challenged to live like Christ — to love, to accept and to forgive.

Our students in Years 5 and 6 are given increased responsibilities and opportunities to develop leadership skills as they interact with the younger year levels and serve in their College community.

Excellent Education

We believe excellent education occurs when the environment the students are learning in is supportive but challenging, relational and respectful, visible and explicit and where students can exceed their own expectations.

Our pedagogical approach, based on a “Reading to Learn” framework, ensures that learning is made explicit for all students, and learning intentions are clear. There are opportunities for practice and re-learning and feedback is welcomed. A classroom that is successful is a classroom where mistakes can be made as a process of learning and where students can feel safe to do so.

Intentional Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care encompasses emotional support, behaviour management and structured curriculum time for social and spiritual development and service.

Pastoral Care is central to the ethos of Carmichael College. Based on the Gospel of God’s unconditional love in Christ, it permeates all aspects of school life and builds genuine community. Pastoral Programs at Carmichael College include, but are not limited to the College Devotional Program (Prep – 6), Behaviour Management Plan, Restorative Justice Process, Bullying Management, Critical Incident Management, and our “My Life Rulz” Program.
