THE BEGINNING OF THE FORMAL LEARNING ADVENTURE
Your child will bring to the classroom a natural wonder and curiosity about the world and their place within it.
A nurturing, supportive and stimulating environment that strives to meet the needs of all learners.
The early years of a child’s education provide a critical foundation for lifelong learning and the acquisition of life skills. During these formative years our teachers assess, monitor and respond to each child’s learning. Our partnership with parents is fundamental to the development of our students. Classroom teachers regularly pray for their students as they journey with them through a year of learning.

LITERACY
Early Years Literacy is based on a “Reading to Learn” approach which ensures that learning is made explicit for all students, and learning intentions are clear. There are opportunities for practice and re-learning; and feedback is welcomed. Sitting within and beside our R2L approach to literacy are Jolly Phonics, Jolly Grammar, Daily 5 and explicit CAFE reading strategies, our college spelling program and a promotion of high quality, much-loved children’s literature.
NUMERACY
Students develop a sense of number, order, sequence, pattern and position, using their environment. They are introduced to mathematical symbols and language so that they can investigate and solve simple problems, explain their ideas, pose questions and analyse and make sense of information. As a result, they are encouraged to problem-solve and learn through hands-on tasks and concrete materials.
“I have been at Carmichael College since Prep. The older kids are nice to the younger kids and I sometimes play with my older brother and his friends. I also like that we get to learn about God because he’s our Father and he made us.”
