AN IMPORTANT TRANSITIONAL STAGE

A season in life where relationships and belonging become a core aspect of a student’s development.

A welcome from Joe Lewczuk

HEAD OF MIDDLE SCHOOL

Students moving into Middle School are commencing the next stage in their lifelong educational journey. With students moving toward their adolescent years, our Middle School team provide the additional support and guidance that the modern middle school student needs across their academic, social-emotional and spiritual development. They experience a range of curriculum and extracurricular activities, but they also receive a strong emphasis and input from their teachers into building positive relationships with peers and staff. We strive to make all Middle School students feel that they are known and belong wholeheartedly to the Carmichael community. We look forward to you visiting us here in the Middle School.

Middle School Tour

To be developmentally responsive, middle level schools must be grounded in the diverse characteristics and needs of these young people.

The Middle School program aims to provide a supportive environment that is engaging and challenging as young people move into adolescence. Students in Carmichael Middle School have many opportunities to explore the world around them in a dynamic, supportive, and caring environment. The staff work tirelessly to develop and maintain meaningful and ongoing relationships with each student.

CURRICULUM

Students are offered a broad curriculum that includes English, History, Geography, Mathematics, Science and HPE as well opportunities to engage in Visual and Performing Arts, Language, and Digital and Design Technologies – all developed in line with Australian Curriculum requirements.

As Middle School students are beginning their journey towards a Secondary school environment, they are gradually provided with opportunities to develop essential skills. This helps them to become familiar with the varying daily routines and scheduled timetable, as well as teacher changes throughout a Secondary school day.

In Year 6, students have a central classroom with a pastoral care teacher and additional teachers for specialised subjects.
In Years 7 and 8, the students have two core teachers and begin to move between classrooms for their subjects.
